Does anyone have a spare set of Adjustable pushrods for a Rover V8?.
Even a split set of 3 or 4 would get me out of trouble. or its a head off job and sort the valve heights out to bring them all in line, so I can loose
my rattley tappets.. I would prefer the thinner ones so I dont have to take the heads off to open up the holes for the rods. Anything considered.
ERR these are fixed length, it is the followers that will be the problem, they are hydraulic in that they take up oil when the pressure is up that
should stop rattling. if this does not happen try a good engine flush to clear out the crud, if you still have rattle after that then I am afraid it
is time to open up the engine replace all cam followers and probably the cam as well, it is very likely the back couple of nodes will be well worn as
they will have been starved of oil, they wear anyway and cams on old engines need changing about the 80,000 to 100,000 mile mark.
Sorry if this is bad news

having spent a long time setting my pre load I was thinking how much better it would have been if one or two of the push roads had been
adjustable.
next time I will opt for this type of push rod!!!

PS dont rate your chances of finding some cheep!!!!!!!
I've not seen adjustable ones for rv8; doesn't mean they don't exist, just that I haven't seen them.
Is this a new problem or is it a rebuilt engine? Is it one head or both that have this problem? Do you know if the head(s) have been skimmed, if so,
then you need to do preload - see rpi website.
Otherwise it could be worn foolers/cam. If you remove manifold, you can get at the followers to look at them; the innards can get mucked up and it is
poosible to take them apart and clean but you may as well buy new followers to save all the hassle.
Paul Balckman at Abbey SPortscars does a lot of RV8 stuff. It may be worth asking if these pushrods are suitable to RV8. Not cheap tho!

Yes I know they are available, abt £130 a set.
Mines a Fully rebuilt engine 1st run this June, and only done 2k miles so far. However, I did the heads myself.
The key is to get all the valve stem tops completely level and parallel to the crank.
Or what happens is you get a tappet or two that you can never get the preload right on.
cheat way is to grind the tops of the valves off until they are all level
Or fit adjustable rods. The 3/8" rods need the holes in the head opening out, grinding the valve stem tops also required the heads to come off.
As I dont want swarf and grinding grit in my nice newly rebuilt engine.
Adj Rods are the easy way out, especially as I only needed 2-4 to sort it out.
I have some spare heads, and may just refurb them and change them over.
I thought it worth a try in case someone has 1/2 a set etc lying about... Some chance eh!
Thanks for the suggestions
PS.. Got most of the parts for the engine from Paul at V8Tuner.. good bloke and excellent service. Well pleased with him, he even talked me out fo
sending quite a bit of money with him.. Sound advice and it was to his detriment. You dont get many traders do that these days. Top bloke, only sold
me what I needed.
