The missus has decided to buy her mum a P.C for chrissy, P.C world are advertising them for £269, trouble is they don't have any stock at any of
the stores near us. what a con. Anyone got any recommendations? I'm in Leeds BTW

They got caught by trading standards a while back for something like that IIRC, presumably they are bright enough to have the right small print in
place now.
I got my parents a laptop a while back - they like to put things like that away being tidy sorts.
Dell's cheapest (Inspiron 1300) is £349 inc vat and shipping which sounds good value (but not she wants to join a clan and go fragging 
)
Hi Chris, being an idle sod i tried ordering it online , but when you get to the checkout, its a collect from store only deal, which would be ok, but
when you type in your postcode to find the nearest store, guess what, no stock within 50 miles, cheeky blighters.

take the add to CCL in Tong. i'd guess they'd be able to build you one to the same spec or better for the same money.
don't think you need to be some techy sort to go there either. they were really helpful when we went, chatted about what we wanted, then went
through all the components. it was a few years ago now, but they've given good service all the times i've visited since.

There internals and components are much better than most budget systems for not much more money.

Love the way Pc world just add on Norton for you and make it hard for ppl to remove it.
Like someone said pop in to a local Comp shop the will be able to match or come close to that Price or even maybe a 2nd hand unit.
Another vote for DELL.
IIRC they are not too upgradable but for the price, when technology hurtles past your machine, bin it!!
Dell Outlet sell off stuff on Ebay with cosmetic damage if you can live with the odd scratch they are cheap. and they come with a warranty.

Get a dell and un check the option for onsite warranty. You get a call from dell to discuss, but it saved me £90
Got a Dell leaflet in front of me at the moment and on certain models they're giving you double memory for free on certain models. Font page has an inspiron 1501 with amd sempron, xp home, 512mb 533mhz ddr sdram and a 60 Gb serial ATA HD price of £399 includes VAT and shipping.
I might go and have a lok at that medion joby in aldi's on sunday,sorry its friday night and i'm too lazy to do a link.
I'd go Dell - I've been around the block a few times with PC's and have built many of my own systems - mostly with components far in
advance of hitting the retail shelves.
My old company has gone extensively Dell and they produce some of the best driving games money can buy! Trust me - if I have to replace my PC -
it's going to be a DELL.
As others have said - the components are second to none and are very good quality. Trust them over PC world or Medion any day of the week.
Good luck whatever you choose - but the extra £50 quid now could be well worth it in the long run...

I recently bought a basic office system complete with 19" lcd monitor and XP for £329 inc vat & delivery! Beats me how they can make any
profit on that price.
on the other hand i have a computer shop here in lincs and i see alot of the "cheaper" dells in for psu, new roms etc etc etc silly
faults.
at the end of the day you need to spend 500 to get a system of resonable quality, also look at the recovery side of things as well some only have a
recovery partition on the hard drive no good if you want to upgrade
I got a Dell laptop cheap , but you have to look carefully 'cos they really strip the spec down to the bone on those desktops to do the price,
even removing a floppy drive, no DVD drive, which is a bit petty as they cost pence.
Mesh Computers do some great deals , they where doing a dual core setup a few weeks ago for £399.
As an IT consultant I cant fault Dell however be carefull if you take out their finance some of the options tie you up in Knots and you will end up paying for insurance etc. I gave up building machines cos I couldnt compete with them.
