anyone got an inductive sensor they are binning?

One that is used on engines for crank poisiton or for ABS trigger wheel may work for what I want to do.


RS sell them for £ 10? so woud like to do it for less if poss.

they are realy bad and are analog

instead of a nice digital signal.

use a NPN / NO if you want voltage when seeing something.

mine is from siemens and i paid 25Pounds for it. It detects until 8mm!!

Yup. Inductive speed sensors are pretty nasty. You need to get the sensor very close to the trigger (0.5-1.5mm air gap typically) and you'll get a very weak (few mV) signal so you'll need to do signal processing (okay, an few op-amps!!) to clean it up.

You can make it work but as mentioned, there are better options out there!!!

Ihave a VDO electronic speedo and was going to purchase an inductive sender off RS like 02GF74 mentioned, (if you buy one from VDO stockists they are very expensive). So what are you recommending instead? NPN/NO ?
