Wanted (desperately! - STILL) Sierra Driveshafts with 23 (or22) splines on the Diff end....

Hi All,

this is the second attempt by me for someone on this forum to help me out as I seem really stuck here, and my build can't go much further without these driveshafts...

Wanted (desperately!) Sierra Driveshafts with 23 (or22) splines on the Diff end. Instead of the (now 2 wrong pairs!) larger ones with 26 splines that I have.

I didn't know that there were two different sizes of shafts and diff splines etc. and didn't bother checking them all the while that I've had them! I have also already prepped and painted them matt black and fitted four new boots on them, so am a bit PO'd as you'd imagine!

I only realised that they were wrong when I received the uprights from MAC#1 in the post and tried to build the back end up as I'm desperate to get it on the ground and off the wooden sawhorses that I made as I don't really trust them fully as they have started to bow under the weight and I would be gutted if the car fell to the floor.

Any help regarding this issue would be very gratefully received.

it's a 3.62 NON LSD Diff so the shafts are the push-in type.

kind regards,

Steve.

what about changing the hubs? instead and still using the uprights you've got. Maybe an ideal time to fit new joints? with the other number of splines.

Hi Macnab,
when I asked a question previously, I was told that these parts were not interchangeablew between the two shafts as they would be differing sizes...
it is only the INNER 23 splined end that I need as I it goes into my diff anyway, so surely it would be just as easy to get the whole shaft as it would to get the inner ends wouldn't it?
I just don't know what to do next - there are a pair of shafts on ebay that I think are the right ones, but I don't know what else I would need to add to them, and they are already a £100 so if I need new boots, hubs etc. on top £???

I would just try the scrap yards, there must still be Sierras? Only other thing I can think off is getting a classic ford mag and phoning up some of the breakers that advertise in there, I have used them before & found them very helpful and cheap plus they tend to deliver the items.

cheers Macnab,

the only thing I've got against going down the route of scrap yards, is the fact that I don't know for certain which Sierra the smaller shafts are meant to be off... I imagine that it would be the 1.3's etc but they must be pretty rare! I'm waiting to hear back from MAC#1 ATM as they have spoken to a local breaker who's got 3 sierras he's breaking today, so fingers crossed there - but if anyone else out there knows of any then please get in touch...
