Rivnut Kit

Looking for a cheap rivnut, nutsert kit to put m5, m6 & m8 inserts in my chassis.

Anyone got a kit they dont need any more they want o sell/pass on??

Doesn't need to be new, a left over kit would do fine. I can buy the inserts on fleabay.

one finished on ebay the other day £40 for a heavy duty one,been looking for one myself,I think they are about 20 odd quid for a cheapo.........might just buy the cheapo one as i wont need it for much..
has anyone got the cheap one from CBS whats it like

I have a cheapo one (Draper) that will set M5 steel rivnuts OK, M6 are possible with a heave, and M8 are impossible. I made my own tool for doing those... (see WWW link below, and follow 'special tools...' for a diagram)

I bought the cheapo CBS one. Worked fine for me so far (think I've done about 30-40 rivnuts so far).....

I've just been using a bolt, some washers and a couple of nuts to insert most of mine. So far so good.

Can't describe how, just saw something on t'web that showed how.

Strangely enough I've just got one this week, I thing it does 4mm, 5mm & 6mm.

I don't want to part with it but you're welcome to borrow it, would probably be best if you had all the holes drilled ready to use it in one go.

If this is any good i can drop it off some time.

Cheapest way, if you only have a few to do, is to get a strip of metal, a few washers, a nut and a HT bolt to match the rivnut. If you're trying to set an 8mm rivnut, drill an 8mm hole in the steel strip near one end. run the nut up the bolt, follow it with a few washers, apply loads of grease, then put the end of the bolt through the steel strip. Screw the rivnut fully onto the end of the bolt, then insert it into the hole you've made in the chassis (or whatever). Start winding the nut towards the steel strip with a spanner - you'll probably need to have another spanner or socket holding the bolt head. Keep winding until you suddenly feel a lot more resistance - job done.

This does work, but will rapidly knacker the nut and/or bolt. Cheap way of doing a few rivnuts though.
