I have a bit of 50mmx50mm 3mm wall you can have.

Dont think you will get 50mmx60mm ?

capri_big_jim - 1/3/07 at 05:42 PM

the only reason i stipulated 50mm x 60mm was cause thats the hole in the flage i have...

do u think if i can cut it down the middle i can widen it....??

thanks
Jim

Depends on what tools you have.

Whats it for ?

capri_big_jim - 1/3/07 at 05:58 PM

Its for a flange to bolt on to a plenum chamber, the hole in the flange is rectangle and i need to come out of that and merge in to some steel tube so i can connect up to some silicone hose.....
i have the tube but i need some box to be able to go from the flange and merge in to the tube...

i have cutting and welding equipment so i should be ok....

thanks
Jim

Yours if you want it mate but 3mm wall is a bit solid for a manifold.

ok mate i think ill leave it until someone comes along with something a bit thinner then...

thanks
Jim

Why don't you just cut and taper the tube to a square 5cm x 6cm to fit, shouldn't be too hard. HTH Ray

I have a piece of 16swg steel sheet big enough to fold and make your own.

capri_big_jim - 1/3/07 at 07:00 PM

Yhe iv just been sat looking at the problem, and have decided that if i cut the end of the tube about 6 times i can fold these out, tack them in to the square hole then use some steel sheet to infil the gaps....

how does this sound?

thanks
Jim

Another thought, if you made a wooden block 50 x 60 tapered it and drove it into the pipe, you could dress the pipe round it, gradualy pushing the timber in until you had the required shape your after. Ray

sounds like a good idea in theory, but would it work?

wouldnt i have to heat the metal up lots and lots...

thanks
Jim

Wouldn't have thought so, if you could get a suitable piece of hard wood, bit of oak maybe, you should be able to dress the tube onto it a bit at a time. Thinking about it thats how I modified the tubes that my air filters are mounted on, the hole in the air flow meter is square. Ray
