Ignition lock and Key
Paul (Notts) - 2/4/07 at 10:57 AM

Got up this morning planning a whole day working on the car…

First task – nip into town and get a spare key cut for the ignition as I only have one and don’t want to loose it or snap it….

Second task – get lots of small jobs done on car so that I can try and start it next week !

Bo***cks – some how I have managed to loose the ignition KEY…

SO have wasted ½ the day looking for it

Car is in the garage - steering lock on…ignition off.

Any one got a spare ignition lock and key or full steering column in the notts area

This has really p*ssed me off – and ruined the one day I have set aside to work on the car.

Paul, if you can get the old one out, I think we may have one that will fit. Will go and have a look now and report back.

Otherwise there are about 7 scrappers crammed full of all kinds of Ford's best behind the Multiplex cinema off the A52.... One even has all the stuff ready and waiting on shelves if you're feeling lazy...

I spent many hours routing around in those places getting barginaceous bargins (like £2 for both stalk switches, £1 Sierra handbrake etc)...

Happy days.....

man i wish i had scrap yards like that close to me, they are ok here in southampton but back home its stupid.

i was looking for a vacuum advance module for a missan micra, and breakers were asking for between £20 to £40 for a second hand one!

found a scrappy in bolton that offered the whole dizzy for £15 but they were abit far way so went to a local scrappy and removed the vac advance from a younger micra that prob wouldn't fit but i thought worth a gamble for a few quid.

get to the gate and they want £15 for it! a grotty thing like that, that i took off myself! told them i would only pay £2 for it and they said that that woasn't even enough for a pack of fags, and i said that was because this wasn't a packet of fags. they weren't too impressed with that. they threw it in a bin as i left, silly really as anyone wanting the dizzy from that micra wouldn't bother with it without vac advance.

anyways i rang up the main stealer out of desperation and they quoted £40 for a brand new dizzy! so have order that, was stupid what the breakers and scrappies were asking for compared to that.

That was a very metaphysical conversation to be having with a scrappy owner!!!

A vacuum advance is not a pack of fags

sounds rather like

Have you changed the steering wheel ? Lock operates on the wheel .

My local scrappie are thieving tw@ts, £20 for a ropey rover 200 rad last time I was there? told 'em to shove it up their collective arses as I could get a brand new one for £27 before VAT

Try one off of a Fiesta Mk2 or Escort Mk3 onwards if you find one in the scrapyard. I always ask how much before I get my hands dirty at our local scrapyard. If the lads are there they are o.k. but if the gaffer is in prices triple.
