R1 bolts and nuts wanted
nitram38 - 3/6/07 at 01:55 PM

I am after a full set of engine mounting bolts and exhaust manifold nuts for an 05 inj engine. I u2u Malc at yorkshire a little while ago but no reply as yet.
Cheers Martin.

Malcs not around much at the moment, but he'll get back to you eventually, I'm sure.

Assuming the engine mounts are the same as the older engines, the two top bolts are M10x1.25 - I just got mine from my local nut & bolt place in high tensile for a few pennies.

The other two mounts were a little trickier and I've ended up using threaded bar for the time being (but I'm in for a lynching unless I get some proper bolts made up!).

Manifold nuts I've not tackled yet.

At the moment I am after the long rear threaded rods. 10mm studding is too small. The diameter of the hole is 10.98mm, so normal studding will eventually wear the aluminium away.
I can get the top mount bolts, but what thread is the exhaust nuts? Aren't they locking types?

Flange nuts for the exhaust are m8 and get them from partco.
Tap out the lower ones to m12

I seem to remember someone using brass nuts for the manifolds (insert cold day/monkey joke here) - something to do with heat expansion etc.

Not sure what the OE fitment is though.

With regard to the thread on the engine bolts, it's all metric, but the threads are finer than standard off the shelf stuff (most M10 being 1.5 pitch but the engine bolts being 1.25 pitch)

For the long bolts, you'll be better getting something made up because the standard bolts will probably be a bit short for your use.

the engine mount bolts are fine thread 1.25 the original bolts arent long enough

I have a box full of black 12mm 1.25 allan head bolts and a box full of 10mm all longer than the original ones as to do a proper job!

£4.00 posted for the amount you need ie 2 bolts usually

I got my long bolts from the local fastner factors (you want bolts not screws). Unless you don't tighten them they wont wear the holes. Exhaust, use 8x1.5 copper exhaust lock nuts. I've got some if you can't source them from your local motor factor.
