can anyone help?
jabbahutt - 24/9/07 at 07:18 AM

Morning

Wondered if anyone here could do me a small favour for beer tokens as I don't have either the proper kit, either that or lack the skill.

I need two M10 bolts approx 20mm long drilling through their length with a hole big enough to take two leads for indicators.

I tried using a normal drill and a vice and only succeded in knackering two bolts, I suspect a pillar drill or something would be more suitable.

Either that or has anyone used this method for securing indicator extensions for SVA and has 2 M10 bolts drilled that they no longer need.

Beer tokens waiting if anyone could assist I'd be very grateful.

Thanks
Nigel

can't help, sorry, but i don't think a pillar drill would be ideal here. someone with a lathe is what you're after

Nigel

Could you use a length of ali tube with an appropriate thread cut onto it instead. This wouldn't be as solid as your drilled bolt and would probably fall off just after you passed SVA...

I used the method described and drilled out 2 bolts using a pillar drill. You could do a lot worse than buy a cheap pillar drill from Machine Mart - I paid ~£35 for mine. It's not great, but for light use it's fine and so much beter than trying to use a hand held drill.

If you get stuck I'll happily drill them out if you send me the bolts and let me know what size hole you need.

If you are still stuck I'll do this for you for the cost of the postage.

Nigel,

Pretty sure I still have the indicators I had on for SVA, I adapted these with some ally tube to stick out far enough. I will have a look tonight if you want. If they are there you are welcome to them...

No idea how to put a picture here but there is an SVA'd and Registered image in my Archive that just about shows them.

John.

John

does the tube pictured take an M10 thread on indicators and an M10 bolt in the nose cone? If so then I'd be really grateful if you wouldn't mind me using them. U2U me and we can sort something out, it would be a good excuse to pop over and have a good look around your car

Cheers
Nigel

Hi Nigel,

I've dug them out.....

Both ends are 10mm, nut at one end to attach the indicator, bolt at the othr end to fasten to the nosecone. Couple of pics in my archive.

Crude but effective.

U2U to follow in a bit.....

John.
