Jeez.Didn't they stop making those agricultural engines and gearboxes like in 1959!

Try finding a RWD A series.
You'll be lucky at even half sensible money

The Marina is the only other RWD car that has that engine that i can think of.

This is not what you are asking for, but I have a 1275 Midget complete cylinder head with low mileage and in good condition. It has been on the shelf in the garage since circa 1980, when I sold my Midget. It may be useful if you find an engine that needs a rebuild.

Also a 1300 Marina engine is very similar and would extend the range of possibilities. The Marina gearbox cast iron and heavier than the aluminium MG one however.

Regards,

Mal

Andy,

While I don't generally question peoples choice of engines, I'm afraid on this occassion, I must

how diffrent is a maestro 1.3 (1275) ?
its got a flange mounted flywheel like a rwd, not like a tapered crank mini.

The original 7s used a 1172 side valve Ford subsequently replaced by the BMC A series so I guess it makes sense if someone is building an authentic replica of the original 7 to use either of those motors.

Why use an A series...

Well i wanted to do it before but didn't think it would suit the Indy so left the idea on the shelf. I love mini's and bizarrly i love the a series engine...dunno why.

It's just something i want to do. It's reasonably light, simple and the 1275 can be modded [rebore etc] to gove over 100bhp without turbo. I may or may not go turbo, just depends on how much more bhp it gives over a modded 1330cc jobby. There are millions of tuning parts so it just seems the way i want to go plus.... I like to be different!!

x_flow57: Yeah sorry, gotta be a series 1275 cos the 1500 has all the inlet and exhaust manifolds on the left which will hit the steerng and be close to the MC.

I turboed my old Mini (using a Metro Turbo lump) - it had an overbore to 1293, upped the boost to about 1 bar (wouldn't recommend as h/g's kept getting blown) Standard is about 7psi. Boost on Metro controlled by "computer" which increases boost with rpm. Got rid of that as well

I'd guess it was between 115 and 130bhp, so it was quite quick

You sure you don't want to go Rover V8 - similar age of technology

Was there a definate power boost when the turbo kicked in?

Mate at work has got a complete MG Midget with a tuned 1340cc (I think?) motor. I'll ask him how much if you're interested?

smart1275gt: I wasn't really after a whole car as money is not overflowing. Depends how much really.
