If I may suggest that maybe a small car might not be the best for a newly passed driver. Most little hatchbacks these days are driven by the notorious boy racers who due to their driving (lack of) skills have hiked the insurance costs to silly levels. Choosing a different car like a small salon Nissan Primera with a base engine etc would probably be cheaper to insure especially if he was a second driver, plus it would offer greater protection in the event he had a bump.

^yep. plus, if he's to have his own insurance on his, as his mum as a second driver to him. actually makes it cheaper! a lot cheaper!

Ive got a 1.6l 306.
- Did the first year with insured as fleet car, and unnamed driver stuff, while i learn.
- Then a anther year insured as a named driver though direct line.
- Then bought the car of my dad 6months ago when he got his new car.
- With 1yr NCB its costing about £420 or something tollerable.

Alternativly, we're now looking for a car for my sister to learn in, and my mum to drive inplace of the 806 now that shes doing a lot less ferrying.
- First thoughts have been a masda3.
- Faily understated and underated imo, possably avalable at a sensable price, and proberbly not to uninsureable. (plus shes a she, which helps).

Would be interested in what other think tho.
