WTD 19mm ID steel tube?
tegwin - 7/4/08 at 02:42 PM

I have had to cut and weld my steering column to make it fit...

To ensure that its nice and strong I want to weld a sleeve over the joint on the shaft...

The shaft is 19mm diameter, so I need some 19-20mm ID tube atleast 50mm long, perferably slightly longer.

I dont supose anyone has any spare?

The only local comany who has any will only sell me a 7 meter length

Try electrical conduit.
If you go to a few building sites, look in their skips, there is always off cuts lying about.

Not a bad idea, its a bit on the thin side isnt it?

Would it be acceptable to use sheet steel and roll+weld it into place, or will Mr SVA frown upon it?

Got some steering shaft tubes here with a 17.5 ID, 21.5 OD.

Got anything to lap, or drill it out with?

I might have a piece of 1" OD 10 SWG tube knocking about. Thats about 19mm ID. I'll have a look later.

Chears for the input guys.

I found a piece of 18mm ID seamless tube....(part of the stand for a flower pot...I hope no one notices that its now 70mm shorter)

I filed it out to 19.2mm...and it slid on like a glove...all painted and ready to go back in the car
