WTD - 3.38 sierra diff
stuart_g - 15/7/08 at 06:25 AM

Asking a bit much I know but anyone got a 3.38 sierra diff being used as a door stop they want to get shot of, or know where there is one.

Mine has oil pouring out the front of it and metal flakes in the oil. maybe easier to get another rather than rebuild, not sure how much a rebuild is.

Let me know 07891 588289.

Cheers
Stu.

NTDWM - but you could try sierra shack on ebay. He has a big barn full to the brim of sierra bits n bobs.

Sierra Shack, laughed at me me when I rang them asking for a 3.38

So did every breaker in South Wales (an I mean EVERY) and all the specialist breakers on the net laughed too

But they are out there

Forgot to say, the main point of my post, try Road and Race Transmissions in Kent for a rebuild, very good reputation.

I got mine through MNR when i ordered my kit. Can they get hold of any more for you?

Got my 3.14 open diff from MNR about 6 weeks ago, he had 3.38 in stock at time.
Advanced Transmissions in Teesside transferred my LSD from 4x4 diff into this diff making a 3.14 LSD!
New seals bearings etc. brilliant job they made of it...well chuffed all for £150+vat

Sounds like a bargain... Thats now worth more than a bucketful of hens teeth

Coo... perhaps I should graft my 3.38 into my 3.62LSD and have a 3.38LSD.

That price was'nt including purchase of diff from MNR (£250), but i was quoted £650-£700 for crown and pinion (supply only) by a few diff manufacturers....so yes a bargain!

I have got my diff out now and had a look inside. Crown and pinion look fine although there are bits of teeth missing on the planet gears and there is quite a bit of slop in the whole planet gear assembly.
Going to get it rebuilt now got a quote from road and race transmissions so it's off to them ASAP. Cost of rebuild was cheaper than these diffs seem to fetch now so no point in buying an unknown replacement.

Cheers fesycresy for the recommendation, they seem a helpful bunch and they do all the caterham diffs so would have done a fair few.
