if you want to keep it cheep and simpal a 2.0 zetec with a set off 45's will see you 150 bhp from a stock engine should get the job lot for £500 running

^^^^

as above but bike carbs instead of 45's.. easier to set up and a whole lot cheaper

And better MPG to boot....
Twin webers sound great... but that's about it...

Not exactly locost and I don't suppose I stand a chance but worth a plug.
I'm open to offers

Why not fit a x flow to get it running and useable for the rest of the summer, then when you have aquired all of the parts to convert do it over the winter?

ive got a 4speed to live axle propshaft if interested?

Do yourself a huge favour and do it right from the start...

Stick a bike engine in it man!

You will not regret it, and making the change now will be relatively easy...

Two grand?

For a crossflow

That would buy quite a nice modern engine. Like a bike engine

Wow a4gom has some nice stuff for sale there. Still I don't suppose Westfield owners from Yorkshire sell bits to Locosters from Lancashire.
More seriously go crossflow as Rusty Nuts says. It's gonna be by far the easiest. Uprate or change later if it's not fast enough for you. IMHO crossflow by far the easiest and cheapest to work on. Zetecs probably the worst, but nice and smooth and prob give the most power/£.
If you're a real speed freak go bec.
