I used a Draper one for mine, worked well , I made all my lines up and no leaks.

Yeah got one just the same as that. Also have a Laser hand held one but recently used a moprod and sykes pickavent ones, and they are soooooooo much better. No lop-sided flares just perfect and easy every time. I seem to be doing a lot of brake pipes just now but can't quite justify £150 for a new one.....Oli.

I used a hand held one too. works okay on soft copper. Don't think it would handle anything harder- it certainly scoffed when I offered it some bundy tubing for the wiper installation!!!

I have the Sykes version, and its the Dogs Dangly bits. Makes perfect flares, and does not mark the tube where the dies hold it.

I paid £117.50 inc Vat and came with 3/16 and 4.75mm dies ie normal brake pipe sizes Imperial and Metric.
The Full Skyes kit with ALL the dies is £250 ish. But you will not need everything unless you are in business.

If I was going to spend £149 I would go and buy a Sykes. They are expandable and the dies are available for different falres and sizes.

Its a lot for what it does. I would go fo a sykes.

8 years on, and my Sykes owes me nothing, ie the pipes I have made up including repairs to the family cars, has saved me much more than it cost.
OK its a long term thing.
If you will only ever make up one set of pipes, it expensive.
If you repair your own cars, and build as well... its an investment.

Yeah that what I was thinking. I've made god knows how many pipes now for the kitcar and I'm doing up my old landy at the moment and prospect of having to replace all the lines on the BMW track car and possibly a merc I'm doing up and another landy in the driveway are making me change my mind about the handheld ones. They do an OK job for the hobbyist but I think I'm doing enought to warrant a proper one. Besides the handheld ones are a faff! Its just I don't have £150 to spare at the moment and need one now. Will prob have to make do for now and get one sometime soon-ish. Incidentally has anyone used the automec (Oakes) ultralight one? Screw action instead of cam but £89.....Oli.
