Chassis -TIME TO BEGIN-
thetankwad - 4/1/04 at 11:58 AM

Thought it was about time i stopped arsing about with lesser vehicles. Does anyone know where i can pick up a welded chassis frame. Not looking for anything else, just the frame to start. Any configuration of WHY (Engine drivetrain variances) considered. Budget barely scrapes £50, but would go to 100 for a delivered unit.

By frame, do you mean basic frame of the chassis, or a complete chassis?

There is a chassis on ebay just now, currently at £100, which I imagine will get higher.

Good luck with the build!!

I sympathise with having a limited budget, but I dont think your gonna get much for that amount.Would have thought you would only get some ones tack welded part frame, probably not built properly and whole heap of greif making it usable.
If you cant weld yourself do your self a favour and save up for a few weeks and buy a pre built unit from MK or other reputable supplier for the sake of a few hundred quid you saved a lot of time and know you have a safe chassis

All the best

I don't think many people sell their chassis if they are pleased with it - you may end up buying someones reject

You can't buy steel to build a chassis for £50. A chassis from a supplier will cost you at least £400 but it should be jigged and accurate. The price reflects the investment of time and resources as well as materials.

Fair do's. See myself looking for some steel now. Anyone know a good supplier in the West Scotland area?

Tip: Don't skimp on the jig materials!

I tried to do mine cheaply and it was a big mistake. I spent hours trying to get two bits of 8x2 chipboard flat!
