Whats this clip called?
MikeR - 12/10/08 at 09:22 AM

This is such a silly question but i can't think of the answer.

Imagine you've got a washer, cut a quarter away and weld on little tabs on the inside.

What is it called?

Its used, in conjunction with a locating groove to hold rods in place. I know scewfix do a pack of them (heck, halfords probably do them) but i can't think what they're called to go and buy them.

(i need two to hold my new seirra hand brake cable in place at the drum end).

good god - 10 mins and nearly 30 views and one answer.

Nope, its not a circlip, they've got the little holes that you use the circlip pliers on to open them up.

These don't have the holes, you use the screw driver to prise them back out of the groove in the peice being held and then they fly over the garage. The three tabs on the inside of the 'washer' are at the back and the two open edges (from the cut out bit).

11 minutes and the right answer - thank you. This site is great.

Right, just need to source some now

Yeah i know, i started to write my reply before you're post had come up initially. We're just too quick at solving problems on here

Now, how do i get someone to clean and tidy my house so i can spend more time in the garage / out (without having to marry them / pay them?)

Go to Thailand and get a takeaway

I removed one from my idle adjust earlier. They are called "the little b*starding thing that nearly took my eye out before disappearing off into a dark corner of the garage never to be seen again!!"
