Curved Router Tool
eddie99 - 29/1/10 at 09:10 AM

Hi Guys,
Im after a curved router tool 20+mm radius to curve the bottom edge mould for my dashboard.
Does anyone know where i can find one? or do they even exist? B&Q only had 10mm max.
Regards
Ed

Yes, they exist but they aren't cheap at somewhere around £40 to £60!

Because of this price, do you reckon some hire companies might hire them out for less? even if its with a router?
Thanks
Ed

Possibly. Worth giving HSS or the likes a quick call. I did look into getting one but then decided it would be cheaper to buy a dash already done.

Another way which might work is if you attached semi circular beading to the bottom edge.

Or go over it twice with the 10mm Seriously, why does it need to be 20mm, you only need to take the sharp corner off and a 10mm bit is about £7 or available in cheap sets. Set the router depth so it doesn't leave a step.

I got some 21mm quarter profile beading from B&Q for about £4 for 2m. You won't get a router bit for that!

I reground a router bit to about 20mm, to radus the corners of a guitar amp cabinet.

You can have it if you want, just a std. 1/4 inch shank. U2U me your address and its yours.

I your padding the dash with foam ie camping mat and vinyl a 10mm roundover and the covering will be near as damnit to 20mm.
Cheers,
Bob

ps- thats a fairly big cutter and any bigger id be wary of putting it in a handheld router. they tend to be only available from the top brand names like cmt and are uber expensive.
ive got one of these off ebay and it is a decent cutter, certainly will last long enough to do a dash.

PPS- i would have contributed this earlier but im not a contributer apparantly.

Its a woodworking tool that looks like a file but has bigger teeth, then sand, fill-sand with template

Confused but excited. - 29/1/10 at 01:33 PM

I think you will find that it needs to have a minimum radius of 19mm, if you would care to check the book of words.
