NACA duct
lightspear27 - 25/1/06 at 12:32 PM

Hi,

I'd like to design and build my own NACA air intake.

Are there informations on the net about how to design an efficient NACA duct?

Or do some locostbuilders have usefull informations about the design of these air intakes?

Any info will be helpfull.

Thanks,

Stefano

There is a basic formula for creating NACA ducts. I can't lay my hand on the book at the moment, but you should be able to find the essentials with a google search.
If you can't find it then I'll have another look amongst my books.

Re : Yes ... need fresh air to supercharge my dick

Seriously ... I'll need fresh air for my supercharger that will be at the back of a quite long and closed bonnet (Ginetta G27).

I do not want to ruin the look of the car with big bulges and scoops so the NACA duct seem interesting.

I do not want to use standard off the shelf Naca ducts. The bonnet is already painted and I do not want to work with resin and fibreglass nor to do a new paintjob.

I think I'll design my own aluminium duct with an engraved Ginetta (or Supercharged Ginetta) logo on it and that I'll fit it with rivets or countersunk bolts (like aircraft and bike fuel caps) without the need of a new paint.

Thanks for the replies,

Stefano

If you u2u me your email address i'll send you a document that will allow you to design your inlet properly.

When properly designed the drag of a NACA inlet is about 32% less than that of a scoop inlet but its efficiency is not so good (at best it is 12% less efficient than a scoop).

I've got a .pdf file which may help but can't seem to attach it.

I used the attachnent button at the bottom of the "Post Reply" screen and selected the file from my C drive but this doesn't seem to work.

Any help would be appreciated.
