I've just been searching and I understand there's some confusion about which wire on the ford VR sensor goes to which pin on the EDIS. Does anyone know, id rather solder it right first time .

Secondly..what is this forcefield being emitted by pin 7?

7 is a grounded wire that shields the VR wires from noise, as it says somewhere as well the earthing should only be at one end.

Yes you would rather expect one end of the screen to be earthed...

The polarity of the VR sensor is shown in the Mondeo Haynes manual, don't know now but will have a look tonight if someone hasn't already given you the answer.

But equally, usually, only one end. So as not to create and earth loop.

So its just a normal bit of wire that comes from pin 7, wraps round and round the VR sensor wires so its like a coiled telephone wire then gets screwed into the chassis at the other end?

You need special shielded cable. I bought some 2 core shielded cable from maplins. The sheild bit is like the outer woven copper wires you find on an TV ariel leads.

Better to get the original wire of a Mondeo or the like.

sorry to hi-jack the thread, but what is the VR sensor being talked about here?

I am in the process of fitting megajolt to my pinto, & the schematic that I am working to has no attachments to pin 7 shown!

If you get an Edis plug the wiring is all conected at the plug end.You will find the shielded cable for the VR and PIP SAW leads are all connected together and earthed via one connection at pin 9 on the Edis end.The VR connections will be correct if you use the original wiring and match the coulors otherwise just make a temporary connection with tape to test it.

All I can find are shielded TV cables

You could get enough from a fiesta, escort or early mondeo with the edis module.If you already have a plug with short leads then maplins sell some suitable shielded audio type cable, I have just repaired my sons electric guitar lead and that is very good quality shielded cable.

Does anyone have a picture of this tiny bit of wiring? I'm not sure how dense the shielding cable has to be around the VR sensor wires - should it form a physical barrier (wrapped tightly round and round then taped over with electrical tape) or does it just need to be wazzed round it a few cursory times and electrical field wizardry does the rest?

Yes that would do the job,or if your going to stonleigh on sunday I can bring you some that I have spare , I usually pick up oddments at work if I see any lying around.

Just in the process of wiring up my own MJLT loom and have raised the issue of VR sensor polarity on the autosportlabs forum and an amendment to the installation guide is going to be carried out to add the information.

Also, i cant help but notice that the EDIS plug i have does not actaully have a sheilded cable going to the VR. The cable ive used (scrouged of a vauxhall cav along with the tps and cable) is shealded but im tempted to just leave the sheilding disconected for now...
