nib1980 - 14/12/08 at 09:55 PM

I was routing for the GTR, cos it hurt clarkson (plus I'm biased)

But the caterham will do!

A Hayabusa is a motorbike not a car

myke pocock - 14/12/08 at 10:10 PM

Bugatti, wonderful??? Never thought I would see those two words together unless it was a Type 35 Bugatti.

scootz - 14/12/08 at 10:25 PM

Only highlight in an otherwise dreadful episode!

It was just a pre production mule for the R8, with a ridiculously powerful engine fitted for publicity.

I also thought it was quite ugly tbh and that front grill looked totally absurd rather like ford making a modern car and sticking the radiator surround of a model T on it just cos they use to make them, just a stylist desperately looking for a trademark style which they don't have, same goes with the paint scheme

A Hayabusa is actually a Peregrine Falcon

How can you say that? They had a ferrari Wizard Sleeve!!!!!
A branded pork sword and a cock. Most sexual references I've seen on TV in a long time. Had me crying at one point!

And that 4 wheel drift the stig was in is stil sublime!

cd.thomson - 15/12/08 at 12:02 PM

nah, it was awful.

The super car was electric (not an issue imho) but it kept breaking so tiny amounts of footage, the feature was James pootling around in a family car (hydrogen fuel cell, thumbs up, but still..) and the comedy section was them failing to do a stunt jump..

I was left feeling empty.. what has the BBC cutbacks done to my topgear :'(

seakoot - 15/12/08 at 09:53 PM

what kind of engine is on this r500 caterham?

Triton - 15/12/08 at 10:21 PM

The Hayabusa is actually the front bit of a 1970's caravan and just as ugly. Folk only rave about it cos it's quick...an MZ250TS has got more style as it makes an odd noise when you let go of the throttle...

The Bugatti is a pie dish with casters as it's a rather big pie dish so pies are very heavy making it awkward to carry....

From horses mouth
http://www.caterham.co.uk/assets/html/showroom/superlightr500.html

Engine: 2.0-litre Caterham Powertrain (CPT) Ford Duratec
Max Power (bhp/rpm) 263bhp @ 8500rpm
Max Torque (lbs ft/rpm) 177 lbsft @ 7200rpm
Weight 506kg (516kg sequential gearbox)
0-60mph 2.88 seconds
Power-to-weight 520bhp-per-tonne
Top Speed 150mph

carpmart - 16/12/08 at 10:49 AM

There are quite a few of the Caterham boys running even quicker Caterhams with Duratec derived 'Ammo' built engines. He is a bit of a 'god' of an engine builder in these circles and I think he is getting circa 320 bhp from a normally aspirated Duratec now!
