Engine management light EPC
tegwin - 12/10/07 at 03:48 PM

Argh...this just finishes my bad week with a big fat turd coloured cherry ontop of the turd coloured cake...

The EPC (Engine management) light came on in my tintop on the way home.... (2001 Polo GTI)

The car drives fine, sounds fine, all the fluids are as they should be...

Am I going to end the world if I carry on driving the car as I normally would, or can it wait a week until my laptop diagnostic cables arive? Im guessing (read: praying) that its just a minor sensor thats malfunctioning somewhere...

I have a VAG COM cable you can come and use if you are desperate, and the full version on my laptop.

The EPC light is for the Electronic Pedal Control afaik. At least thats what it is on my A3. If you post on VW/Audi forum, some of the guys there have a diy version of VAGCOM (the VW diagnostics) as do I, and they may be willing to help. If you're really stuck, give me a shout in about a week and I'll be back from holidays.

Greg.

I'd check the brake lights and also the brake pedal switch. It came on on the wifes lupo and went the VW garage to be plugged in for vast sums of money only to be told it was the brake pedal switch for a few quid...

9 times out of ten on that age vw it will be the pedal switch. About £6 to fix.

Went on brother Polo his wifes beetle and my wifes Leon!

Hahaa...its funny you all say that...

I just drove home in the dark, and couldnt figure out why people were getting up my arse when I slowed down...

I have NO brake lights :-s

So I guess the issue is my peddle switch which acording to a VAG forum, is a common issue...

Ho hum..

That's nice. You've just been handed a couple of sheets of andrex to wipe the cherry turd off the turd cake. Flush the remains and I hope next weeks better.
