BBC iPlayer outside UK
Big Stu - 22/7/08 at 07:19 PM

Does anyone know of a way that I would be able to watch BBC iplayer programs outside the UK. Currently offshore and it won't let me watch anything.

Anyone know of any clever way of masking my location or something smart like that?

Use a UK based public proxy.

Slightly more expensive option...

Buy one of these (or similar unit, as long as it is able to act as a VPN end-point)

...then have it colocated in the UK. I'd charge around £10/month for such a service.

Used with a VPN client on your PC (Windows has this built in) it will forward all your traffic to the unit, and out to the 'net from a UK IP address. All traffic is also encrypted, so whoever's network you are using cannot see what you are doing.

Ok, it's a lot of cash to spend, but keep in mind the box will support multiple users at once - 32 concurrent connections if I remember right - so you can always get a few people in a similar situation to chip in.

If you know what you want to watch I can rip the DRM and send it to you

Don't fancy doing that for half the BBCi content though!!!

UK based proxies work otherwise....

Cheers Guys,

Some good ideas there. I was only wanting to watch Top Gear last night as the wife deleted it from sky plus. I will look into setting my own PC at home up as a proxy for furture use.

Thank you all anyway.
