MX5 diff removal

Hi

Still trying to get my MX5 rear end stripped down.

Tonight's lil' issue is removing the diff - argh !!

Basically I've now got the wishbones/half shafts and hubs removed. And after that I took the subframe off the top of the diff.

So then all I have left is the PFF which is like an RSJ. It is bolted to back of gearbox and the front of the diff.

The PFF is supported on blocks and I've removed the bolts holding the diff.

So I thought I could then slide the diff out but it's stuck.

Is it safe to hammer the diff casing ? It's aluminium so I was a bit worried about cracking it. Anyone else had similar issues and what did you do ?

Thanks for any help - this is not turning out as easy as I thought !!!

Are you just trying to femove the PFF from the diff?
They are off the car/shell?
Is the PFF attached to the 'box?

Hi

S'ok - sorted now. There is a collett underneath that needs prising out. Should have looked more closely at manual.

I've freed it up now.

thanks anyway

it was a proper doh moment. i asked on an mx5 forum and oh the shame !!!

I did give it a few strong smacks with a rubber mallet but also my hammer.

I'm a bit paranoid now - is it likely i've hairline cracked it or anything daft like that ?
