Bellhousing to suit 1.0 ecoboost

Im thinking about transplanting an ecoboost 1.0 into my saab 96.

The saab has a ford type 9 bellhousing pattern and ive heard so does the ecoboost engine?

Ignoring the bellhousing, why not do a 1.6 ecoboost, the 1.0l will be great in fiestas, kitcars and single seaters, but cant see it achieving much in a 1.5 tonne plus tintop.

its for the size of the engine bay

the ford v4 is quite short - and therefore a straight 4 i think will me out the front of the car!

A straight 3 might be fine though!

the ecoboost is a variant or sigma/zetec-se engine so bell housings are available

I think the 1.0 is different to the other engines

The 1.0 Ecoboost is in the Mondeo so it may cope OK

Its not just a simple matter of saying "The saab has a ford type 9 bellhousing pattern". The type 9 has many bellhousings available to enable it to fit to many engines.

However, your argument falls apart instantly ,the 96 is FWD and the Type 9 is a RWD gearbox, not compatible in any way.

With regards to the mounting pattern on Ford engines there have been several since the late 50's. The most common was the one used on the pre-x-flow, x-flow,Pinto, Lotus Twin cam, BDA (and variants), Sierra Twin Cam, Cosworth and iron Zetec E (Blacktop and Silvertop). Then there was the one used for the Essex V4 and V6. The Cologne V4 and V6 had a unique pattern. The Yamaha Fiesta/Puma has a unique pattern. The Durtec has a unique pattern.And since its a brand spanking engine I would expect the new 3 cylinder unit to have a unique pattern. I am certain I must have missed some others including the Consul and Zephyr/Zodiac strait 4 and 6.

sounds like an excellent conversion - lighter, more power and true to its roots as the 96 had an I3 before getting the Taunus V4.

It souds like a great project. Please keep us all up to date with progress as it will inspire others.
