i think the diff oil was low even tho it was checked twice after initailly filling it up
the clean area shows where the oil has been
also took a pic of where the shafts come to (inside the diff)
as i thought they were too far in causing the whining noise
Think you're barking up the wrong tree there. All the noisy ones I've had are shagged pinion bearings....
My bro in law is a transmission apecialist and explained to me that only the very tips/faces of the gears are hardened. With incorrect half shaft
loading this area will wear away in less than 50 miles and make a horrific noise ever after.
This is a very tricky job requiring experience and many so called transmission specialist will run a mile from diffs for this very reason.
I am not an expert but pass this info on in good faith.

Can't really be the sun & planet wheels of the differential as they don't actually move much relative to each other except when
cornering or during wheel spin.
Nor is it anything to do with the oil level -- it looks just fine.
Much more like to be the final drive gears check the surfaces of the pinnion and crown wheel and the pinion bearing and you could check the mesh.
However it isn't really worth trying to fix it just change the diff. Also are you sure it is the final drive that is making the noise and not
due to straight cut gears in the motorcycle transmision.

i suppose with it being a 3.62 it should be cheap enough again
