I think they are 8mm holes Bob to suit the T45 Torq Bolts - which I'm sure
we all LOVE!

I'm not sure but they must have been there for a reason.

I don't use them, and I NEVER use Torx bolts once I have ground the old ones off (Snap-On will not guarantee this size of Torx bit for the very reason of these bolts!!)

I use normal high tensile (grade 12.9) caphead bolts with no plates under them. I don't really know why the plates are there but I have had no problems without them on several cars. The CV cage is so strong that a bolt head will not distort it!

Oh yes, meant to say that the cars on which I don't use the plates are competition ones and on one of them it's with a welded diff, and I succeeded in snapping the shortened sierra shafts but the bolts have never even come loose (no loctite either) so I think the bolts are just fine without plates!!

Cheers for that

I didnt use the torx bolts either since i had a supply of caphead 12.9 in the right size,i used the linked washers because i had them but i have seen many cars without as well.

Sorry to pull up such an old thread but I'm currently looking for a full set of 12 of these washers but can't find anywhere that supply them.
I've been to ford and they say they are on back order which basically means they don't make them anymore. The guy at ford recommended trying driveshaft specialists. Can't find anything via internet search.

I know a lot of people don't use them but I would prefer to have them than not if possible.

Anyone found anywhere that does them recently or have a set lying about?
