Racing bike track wheels wanted- fixed gear
Once again a challenge for the Locost community!
My son- despite owning one of almost every sort of bike available - has planned to build up a fixed speed racing bike for a while now.
A work mate who is approaching retirement has kindly loaned him (He says he can't actually bear to totally part with it! ) his old Bob Jackson
track frame which is a nice piece of work involving Reynolds tubing, prob about 35 years old, the original wheel size would have been 27 x
1.25"
Before risking the e bay route I thought it would be worth asking on here if anyone happens to have any half decent wheels about which they want to
sell as we have never had any bad experiences dealing with locosters,
I'm no expert but please get in touch if you have or know of anything or likely sources,
thanks in advance!

If it's a Bob Jackson and built for racing (ie. not a fixed training/road bike) of that age it'll be built to take
"sprints/tubs" and they're the same size as modern 700c wheels. I'll not go into the history of bike tyre/wheel sizes other
than to say it's complicated (but sprints started as 28" and are smaller than 27" rims?!?).
Try veloriders.co.uk or british cycling web site. You should find something there. You'll want 700c rather than sprints/tubs that have to be
glued on. At least at first. I do have a couple of carbon track disc wheels I'm going to sell but they're probably not what you're
after... yet!
Feel free to ask for advise. I'm a registered coach at Manchester Velodrome and have raced a fair bit, know most of the GB team and have a
bronze medal from the World Masters Championships (I got lucky).

Bob Jackson what a bike that was in its day, I remember a lad when I lived in Newcastle was given one of his dads old race bikes it was a Bob Jackson
you could pick it up with 1 finger. He hated it and used to swap us rides because he was never allowed bike like ours ie Grifters Choppers and the
like
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

Thanks for info so far I'll follow up the links- He used to have a Joe Waugh bike also reynolds tubing and extremely light which was brilliant
but became too small- it had the glue on tubs which were 'exciting' to replace.
We only learnt of the frame when the guy at work popped into the workshop to borrow some araldite to fasten some cable lugs back onto the carbon frame
he rides to work.

Ive a few pairs of wheels from my cycling days.I think I have a pair of 24 spoke track wheels with 6 oz tubs but the tyres may not be good as they are
now about 30 years old although they have been stored in the dark with covers over them.I used to use them on the road occasionally on 10mile time
trials.
If of interest I can have a look for them and see what condition they are in, I also have lots of other retro cycling gear from the 60s and 70s .
