Roll cage, race spec
Guys, anyone got a race type (caterham?) roll cage that will fit my standard width MK Locost?
Or point me in the right direction

Playskool sell Westfield ones,not sure how the dimensions will match up to a MK though

I believe Procomp make and sell roll cages and may well be able to help you...

...others on LCB seem to rate them highly for geometry etc. so probably worth a call.

Its its race spec you want then buying and modifying and ensuring a quality installation will probable cost as much as getting a specialist to
fabricate a bespoke one. MK might be once place to try, although its worth noting their old style of cage no longer complies (it had more than 1 bend
in the front bar)

All cages need FIA approval now for any form of motorsport.
Tubing has to be of specific type (seamless I think) & of a certain diameter.
If your not far from caged, speak to them about making you one to fit.

The words 'FIA' and 'approval' make up a misleading statement. All cages do (and for as long as I can remember) need to be
built (For the majority of UK motorsport) to the MSA guidance within the blue book.
Its CDS steel (cold drawn seamless).
The only time 'approval' comes in to it is if you get a cage thats not been built exactly to the guidance, you can then get it tested and
approved. The procomp locost cage has this approval, but this approval is only valid when built by them to one of their own chassis (their chassis is
part cage and a such part of the approval).

Also watch out if you intend to fit an FIA approved Caterham cage to your Locost.
Any modification to the cage or it's mountings would invalidate the FIA approval and as the dimensions of the tubes would be smaller than the
MSA requirements for non-MSA/FIA approved cages - you would not be allowed to run in MSA competitions.

Thanks guys for your replies. I know now the only way forward will be to get a cage built onto my chassis, in order for it to be usable for racing.
Unfortunately I cannot justify spending a grand+ to do this.
So I will think again how I take this project forward.
