Wanted - Complete Pinto Head in good condition.
Hi Guys,
I am about to take ownership of my father in laws Tiger Cat E1, the downside being that the head of the 2l Pinto has a sticking valve.
Before I start buying parts and finding out a good place to replace the valve guides, I thought that there might be a good condition head out there,
waiting for a new home!
So does anyone have a good condition head that they would part with for reasonable cash?
Standard is fine, with or without cam.
Alex.

Having rebuilt a Pinto for my MK Indy how much have you checked on your existing one?
Existing cam lobes worn
Rocker assembly working correctly
Valve itself OK (not bent etc.)
Bearing in mind it would be good practice to fit a new top end gasket set when repairing or replacing the head it may be just as cost effective to
thoroughly check the existing head and have any repairs done if necessary.

I have the head in my garage, but the car is still in Norfolk.
Not yet had a chance to check out the head in detail, although the cam lobes are worn I do have a spare standard cam from another project years
back.
I am leaning towards rebuilding this head, but if someone had a good spare kicking around with a nice cam, it would remove 'discussions'
with the father in law in later months... He is a retired engineer, who knows his way around engines, it is just the bodies ability to do the jobs
that has departed!

Your best option for a head is the injection one, the short side turn is smooth compared with the cliff edge on a standard one.
An injection head and an FR32 cam will give 130bhp and 135ft/lbs
The injection head is always a good start

I drink to forget
I breath to pi55 my ex wife off (and now my ex partner)

Do you have one for sale?
How would I tell the difference between the carbed and injected head?
Would the inlet manifold for my 45's fit on an injected head?

You can spot the efi head easily - the inlet ports are egg shaped instead of round
Some folk reckon the efi head is worth nearly 10bhp on the carb'd one - but if you get a ported head it won't matter (a decent ported head
is easily better than a stock efi one)
The efi ones are more likely to be unleaded ones as standard though...
