Wanted: Caterham\ MK Indy Stanchions for windscreen (templates\dimensions)

Hi All,

I'm really not happy with the position of the windscreen on my MK Indy so I'm looking at making some new brackets for it.

Does anyone have the template (PDF, DXF, DWG etc) or dimensions of the brackets \ stanchions \ uprights so I can laser cut some?

Thanks in advance

Pete

whereabouts arre you J ?

I have a Caterham on my Indy, so you could come and have a look at it. If not, I'll try and get arond to taking a picture and edit it with some measurements for you.

Hi Mash,

Unfortunately, I am a bit far away from you in Worcester.

If you could take a pic and show me the dimensions, that would be fantastic.

Much appreciated.

Thanks Pete

Depends a bit on the screen you have. I suspect it's very much "bend to fit". I made ours up based on the screen and rake angle I needed to ensure hood would work.. Not to hard to make one up. Mine is overkill 6mm Ali plate (bending that was "difficult"... but possible just)..

I put the full caterham screen on mine so that I knew there wouldn't be a problem between the screen and the stanchions. It fits fine, but as yoou have mentioned Blue, I now need to alter my hood to fit, but it's only a half hood so not a massive problem..

I have a Caterham full hood, but to make that fit I will have to insert a peice as the Indy is a lot longer.

Thanks for your replies.

Mash, you have hit the nail on the head!

I have two reasons for remounting the screen.

1. I have a Caterham half hood that is too short
2. The rake of the screen means I get turbulence exactly where my head is

I'm not interested in buying a new screen because it's perfectly fine, so I have three options:

1. Change the rake of the screen (with new stanchions)
2. Mount the screen on the upper part of the scuttle (I've seen someone has done this)
3. Add some brackets to the top of the screen to mount the hood.

I would prefer option one but I need to reduce the gap by 3 inches.

Thanks you both.

You could angle the seats? I have old Caterham ones in mine, these are highly raked, reduces head height....

Thanks Dan.

I am going to do that aswell anyway.
I'm only 5' 11" but I have to slide down the seat to avoid the buffeting from the wind.

Do you have side screens, found most of the turbulence is from the sides rather than from top.. Sides screen transformed ours from unpleasant buffeting to comfortable cursing..

Yes I do, but I might laser cut some bigger ones.

I might also try a rear wind deflector mounted to the roll hoop.

Not tried this but it a mesh behind your head i.e. searched over the roll hoop can stop buffeting, might be worth a try. I think some production cars have used this method. Cheap enough to get hold off.

Hi Pete hopefully this is a picture of the stanchion with sizes added (in mm)

I bought a Caterham screen and stanchions (from ebay iirc), got it reasonably cheap as the screen was cracked. Had a new laminated screen glass made at the local glaziers, and Robert's your mother's brother

Thankyou Mash

That is fantastic!!

I'm sure I can get something to fit.

I have my own non-metal cutting laser so I can cut a few templates out of perspex to try first. Then get one of my customers to cut it out of metal.

Thanks again.
