WTD R1 Sump
Hi,
I'm in need of an R1 sump for a 2000 5JJ as I broke my first one and the second I got has a problem with the sump plus threads (ntdwm I
don't think, but the oil keeps leaking nevertheless!)
If anyone should just happen to have one lying around doing nothing, I can find it a nice home in exchange for cash!
Cheers
Steve

Is the copper washer fitted? PTFE tape is cheap

I've tried a copper washer, PTFE tape and an o-ring. I've also tried combinations of the above but with no effect.
When I tighten the plug, it gets tight then loosens up - when I took the plug out to inspect it, it had bits of aluminium in the threads, which leads
me to believe it's beyond quick fixes.
Using a helicoil has been suggested, which I may as well give a go since I'll need to find a new one if it doesn't work.

I think I need to buy a bulk load of sumps because they seem to be a sundry item at the moment!

I went through a phase like that, resorted to buying a TIG and fitting a kevlar sumpguard
The little bugger still leaks!

Hmmmm.... Maybe I should get the TIG fired up? Steve - if you can make a steel plate to bolt the sump to to stop it distorting I can have a go at both
of your damaged ones. It would need to bolt through all bolt holes into the steel though.

Might have to be the way forward (at least with two to play with, it's worth a go)
Probably best to try and fix the original 'accident' where it's just the corner lug that@s munched up and shouldn't effect oil
retention.
I'll get some steel plate at Rufforth next week.
JK - I wouldn't mind if the sumps were breaking while out driving - the problem is that the car's never even been on wheels yet! Must be
some fairy's sneaking in at night and over tightening the bolts or something!

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about Rufforth. Should I meet you there or pick you up en route? I'm sure Mark will be going but not until the
evening....

Oh yeah, you do the entusastic early thing, I forgot!
I'll meet you next to 'starbucks' at a reasonable time!

Oh, I won't be THAT enthusiastic - I do that when I go with Cider Sam! I just like to get there before everyone else leaves!
