*WANTED* Rover V8 bits and bobs

Check your garages and sheds!
We have an '83 SD1 Vitesse engine and we need:

- Ignition module for use with Lucas 35DM8 distributor (used in '83 and '84 cars) (can you use the baby (distributor mounted) one from the later 35DLM8 type?)
- Ignition coil suitable for use with said module and dizzy
- Clutch hydraulics (master and slave cylinders, LT77 'box)
- Fan belt (non power steering/aircon)
- EFI fuel pump (capable of 40psi, not sure of flow rate, I'm guessing anything from a reasonably large EFI engine will do, Jag, Vaux/Ford V6 etc)

Check out the prices of new clutch hydraulics as I think they will be cheaper than you might expect from a typical autoparts store. I don't know what Rimmers will charge but I got a price of under £20 for a new master or slave cylinder (I can't remember which now). The company I tried was Viking International in Glasgow but I'm sure you can find a closer/cheaper source.

As for the dizzy stuff, mine has a dizzy, coil and balast resistor with no external ignition amp. This is probably a daft question but you're not mistaking the balast resistor for an amp are you? I know there are different types of setup but thought I'd better check the obvious anyway....

Here's a quote from the David Hardcastle boook on V8 tuning which is relevant:

"With the introduction of the Rover 3500 (SD1) in 1976, the rover V8 engine got its first electronic distributor, the 35DE series Opus (Oscillating Pick-Up System). The 35DE Lucas Opus system was one of the first electronic distributors, having been proved in Formula One, no less, and used first in production on the Jaguar V12 engine. In 1982 a new Lucas Constant Energy System was introduced, coded 35DM, which up until 1986 had a separate ignition module, but after 1986 the module was incorporated into the distributor body."

One option would be to find a dizzy from a post 1986 Vitesse of VDP Efi car. Another would be to get an ignition module from Rimmers. It seems to be £48.03 inc vat if I have found the correct part ( http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/cgi-bin/rimmer?findpart&PartID=NJL100060&Page=sd1/electrical )

Can't help much with the fuel pump question but as long as the system has a regulator, which it has, and as long as you are feeding at least enough pressure and at a sufficient flow rate then all should be well. According to the above book, the standard pressure is 36psi but I don't know about the flow rate. I've sent you, via email, an extract from the above book which might help. It suggests a Rover 800 or Montego/Maestro efi fuel pump which is described as a high pressure/high volume 4Bar/60Psi pump.
