What is good value in tube notchers at the moment?
Need to do some round tube work soon, and I will need to do some tube notching (or bird's mouth cutting if you prefer).
There's nothing suitable on Ebay at the moment, and I'd prefer not to buy from the States unless there's nothing to be had from the
UK.
Anybody know of anything? It needs to cut a 25mm radius notch (to fit onto 50mm tube) BTW

use the cardboard / toilet roll trick and cut the end to match the joint. then slip over the tube, mark out and notch up the tube.
I have seen a home made one, using some steel rods and plastic drain pipe tubes.
The rods form a sort of circular profiling Comb affair (between the two plastic tubes), which you offer up to the point where you want the notch. They
move and form around the tube you are welding to.
The you use the formed rods to mark out on the end of the tube you want to cut.

I did indeed do a Google search but what I really want to do is to buy a tube notcher rather than to read about them
Unfortunately the Chester tools people don't have any, and Harbor Freight don't seem to export to the UK, so I'm still in the market
if anyone knows of any other sources (ideallyin the UK)

All you want is a thin 1mm cutting disc in your angle grinder and download the tubemiter program from the first post on the mig welding forum

Did my roll cage tubes using it works a treat angles and different tube sizes no problem.

I do have that program, and will probably use it if I can't get what I want. It's just that I expect to be doing a fair few of these so
it's worth a bit of investment.

The Chester UK one is pretty good (and good value). Did they give you any indication as to whether they would get them back in stock?

I have the chester one. I bought it for the MotaLeira and never used it!
I found it easier to hold the end of the tube agaist the other and mark with a marker pen, then cut the curves out with a worn grinding disc (layered
paper type) until it fit.
It is just as much hassle trying to get the tube notcher to be at the correct angle as it is to do them by hand.
If I had 100 identical ends then I would use the notcher................

indeed, bloody hard work. In fact if you're doing an angle, i'd say impossible. It snags far too much with a pillar drill.

Tube notchers using holesaws will be a bit hit 'n miss. what you really want is a tube mill using milling cutters. Even then they are damn scary
to use especially on thin guage tube!
I could never justify the daft cost so used the "shed method" mark it out and use a flap disc in a grinder to do it. Easy to make a
template afterwards.
