OT: Metalworking lathe

My old lathe (60 year old myford) is getting well past it now, and I need to start doing some more accurate machining.

Looking for a decent quality secondhand lathe. Minimum of 100mm centre height and 300mm between centres as this would replace my existing one (anything much bigger I can do at work).

Anyone know of something thats available and not too far away from me?

Cheers,
David

Its had 60 years of use and is very worn both slideways and bearings. Everything is loose and reached the limit of its adjustment.

I need to do some more accurate work than it really allows, have been talking about getting a newer one for ages.

David

Can you not get the bearings replaced and the slides refaced/ground?...Having said that...a newer one might be cheaper

That looks very tasteful, wonder what it will go for? I'm seriously tempted.

I know how frustrating that is

both my dads ones are well worn, so I've been getting someone else to do the accurate stuff at the moment
I recon they both need new bearings and chucks / collet holders, but after that they should be good (but not perfect)

so where do you get bearings for 40+ year old lathes ?

(btw - I've sent you a u2u with a contact for s/h machines)

I've got a Boxford (or is it Denford? - now scratching memory cells) that I am considering letting go. Its got 3 and 4 jaw chucks, face plate, jacobs chuck for tailstock etc and has screw cutting capability. I have quite a few bits and bobs for it as well.

It also runs off single phase and has a locker underneath. Its not quite full sized but is larger than a Myford. I've had a BDA flywheel on it.

U2U me with an email address if you want some pictures etc.

John
