don't want to be a sourpuss but do check your mains elect for your shower is up to 10.5 .
I had to rewire to bigger rated cable when I upgraded my shower, something I almost overlooked.

Armchair opinion....The 8.5 will (I think) be on the edge of what the RCD (and hence probably cabling) will handle...so would not recommend going any higher

(8500kW/240v = 35A)

If you haven't a clue what you are doing don't risk it, you'll probably burn the house down.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT CABLE SIZE I HAVE?

1mm² CSA T&E has overall dimensions of 7.8mm x 4.25mm

1.5mm² CSA T&E has overall dimensions of 8.2mm x 5mm

2.5mm² CSA T&E has overall dimensions of 10.3mm x 6mm

4mm² CSA T&E has overall dimensions of 11.9mm x 6.25mm

6mm² CSA T&E has overall dimensions of 13.5mm x 7mm

10mm² CSAT&E has overall dimensions of 17.1mm x 10mm

16mm² CSA T&E has overall dimensions of 19.4mm x 10mm

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Outer casing of the PVC insulation has nothing at all to do with the current carrying capability, of the 'cable' !
The important cable dimension is the;
(cross-sectional area of the copper conductor) in mm(squared); csa
of the copper.current carrying conductor !

Peteff,
I agree with you about the sizes you have quoted, for British Standard sized cable 'outer sheaths@ , the should be good!
BUT, can YOU guarantee the the cable that may be used to supply a 10.5kw shower is adequate, if you dont know who made the cable ? Or where it was made?
I have seen many samples of unregulated cable being used in very dangerous conditions! Make sure the cable 'YOU' spec for 'your' job , is capable of carrying the current required by you application !

Be careful out there, dont suggest something you wouldnt do in your own home !

I have found a whole kitchen hanging off a 2.5 twin and earth and a shower hanging off a long run of 4mm.......

Did you read the first line of my post? I'm not going to guarantee anything over the internet just pointing out that the " Outer casing of cable is at least 10mm Dan " is no indication of what it is wired with. Now where's that get off your high horse smiley.
