Amp for a bass box

James has got this bass box to go in the boot of his Pug 106 and is looking for an amp, am I correct in thinking he just needs a 1 or 2 channel amp or are their specific amps to drive these anti social things?

If anyone knows of a good brand which is relatively cheap or has one going spare for small money then I'm sure James would be pleased, however as I'll be the one fitting it and then listening to it at all hours I'll forgive you all on this occasion if the LCB team doesn't come up trumps

He's got one of these btw Linky

Cheers

Rich

The bass is a mono signal so it only needs to be single channel.

Do you know the RMS value of the speaker he'll be driving?

As above what is the power rating (RMS) of his sub and what impedance voice coil(s) does it have. More than happy to advise, in my time I have built many winning competiton vehicals so am more than able to help.

bit confused as to what he's actually got already, you say he's got a bass box, but link to just a stereo?

i've got one of these
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1233/ecid/17/esid/68197/referer/rc_newsletter_16/ln/7.html
its really good value, and good bass off it. only when i got it, it came with a pair of 6x9" speakers, and a 4 channel amp. still, for what you get i think its a cracking price

its got everything you need to wire it in included, the only thing it doesn't have is the phono cables to connect the outputs on the stereo to the inputs on the amp. you can get those from all sorts of places anyway, maplin, comet, currys, pound shops etc

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product_list/c_path/1086_1088/spd/single-12-sub-amp-deals.html
there's all sorts of good deals on there actually, stick with names like JBL, Kenwood, or infinty

You do not need a mono amp.

You can get a multichannel or 2 channel amp if it has the ability to bridge the channels to drive just one.

You need to get one that has similar cababilities as the subwoofer. Not that a lower wattage amp won't work.

Antisocial things? I have a 15" subwoofer in my car.

I find it listening to music while driving a lot better than being at home and have neighbours complaining.

Why pay more for a multichannel/stereo amp, just to make it mono, by bridging it?

I have a 600w amp driving a dual coil 12" sub...

I got the last lot of gear off these guys

http://www.theloudest.co.uk/

They have an ebay shop as well...

Get a matching 1000w set and blow the cobwebs out the boot! Mine fair made the old Rover 45 shake about blasting some metal!

Oops forgot to mention price £25 for the 200 watt, £30 for the 300, £35 for the 400, there was a 500 but one of my engineers nabbed it. Have to check postage as they are quite heavy. The rating is RMS by the way not peak or PMPO.
Cheers,
Bob
