I think these cars had two different types of axles, namely the English axle and the Atlas axle. The English being stronger and the preferred choice, but very rare, Ebay is worth a look.

I also believe the Capri axle is 2" wider than the escort one, so worth checking

Capri Atlas is stronger but heavier and 4” wider than an English Escort axle. Avoided a Koln,it looks like an atlas but a little narrower. Then here are cortina’s ect.

I have a spare axle.

I got it as part of a spares package when I bought my (ex 750mc ) Locost.

If anyone can give me a clue how to identify it, (I can`t see a serial number anywhere, but it does have a barely legible sort of dog tag on it), then it may be suitable.
Numbers on "dog tag" OE20N3891, P75AG4004BVC.
Width is 1230mm to the face where the drum backplate fits.

Ratio will be 3.89:1

For the 750 mc Locost I would think it’s an Escort English axle.

With an English axle the diff unbolts from the casing (banjo) and the atlas has a tin cover on the rear of the axle to get to the diff.

Cheers Big Wasa

The rear casing is part of the whole, ie not removable. To dismantle, you would split from the front aspect, there are 8 nuts holding it together, via captive bolts.

Can we confirm which it is now?

Thanks

Do you have to have a Ford axle? Theres plenty live axles around from 4x4s with lsds and disc brakes as standard..
