Steering Rack Clamps

Hi,

I'm looking for the two "U" shaped clamps for an escort mk2 (1975 ish) steering rack that hold the rack in position.

haven't yet tried my local scrap yard, wondered if anybody here had any spare?

Thanks

JohnN

Ford dealer told me they were discontinued when I bought the two rubber bushes.... You don't still have the part numbers do you? I wondered if a different vehicle in the Ford family had the same brackets?

Here's the part numbers from a recent thread:

F1446351 - Big clamp,
F1446352 - Little clamp,

I too need to source these so please let me know if you have any joy. Demon tweeks seem to do a motorsport version for about £40
Cheers,
Craig.

Dimensions of steering rack clamps

I tried to source the above part numbers at my local Ford factors last week. I was told they are no longer produced and were not available. I realise they may well be old stock somewhere but if they are similar to the Mk3 escort ones I have they would be a doddle to make.
As yet I am awaiting delivery of a set of rack mounting bushes which I plan to take measurements from. Can anyone post CAD drawings or at least the dimensions of the standard Ford items?

Thanks in advance

Mick

I ordered mine from Vospers, St Austell, they arrived 3 hours later - I'm sure they could mail them to you 01726 73285.

Hi,
I tried speedshack today and they initially said they didn't have any then they thought they did and would phone back to confirm. Then after they didn't phone back I phoned them to find that they didn't think they had any again but were waiting on a call from someone else. I am waiting on another call to confirm whether they have or have not... Confused? I am!!

Anyway, one point of interest is that they do polyurethane versions of the rack mounting rubbers for £11.95 inc vat and when they do have the clamps they sell for around £3-4 each. Postage is £4.95 to central scotland.

I also tried a Ford dealer who said that they didn't have any escort brackets but did have the rubbers. They did have a Cortina Mk4 rack mounting bracket which was "a beautiful fit" over one of the escort rubbers. I can't remember if it was the big one or the little one but it was £4 odd. Does anyone know if the Cortina Mk4 used the same bracket as the Escort Mk2?

Cheers,
Craig.

Thanks mate, I've just ordered a set. They are a "Clearance" item so if anyone else wants some then you'd better be quick. Total price including VAT and postage was just £7.65 which seems very good to me!

Thanks again for pointing this out.
Craig.

Hornet,
You are a star!!!

Yes, I'd be very interested as I am still having no luck at all. When would be convenient to pick them up? Alternatively I could pay for postage. I'm keen to get them for this weekend so that I can fit my steering rack if possible. Would Saturday be convenient or even Friday early evening?

Drop me an email at:
locostbuilder@craig.chamberlain.name for a quicker response if necessary.

Thanks again,
Craig.
