brake pipe flaring tool
anyone got a brake pipe flaring tool lying around that they wanna sell?

you can buy em new for not a lot at machine mart. (10 quid or so???)
the cheap ones work well. Just make sure you also get a proper tube cutter and a small file to chamfer the edges of the pipe.

There was a tube cutter included with the slightly dearer ones, will cut up to about 25mm so you can use it for central heating for the shed.

I bought one of those Machine Mart ones Steve it was a bag of shyte, the tube kept slipping thru the flaring block it could have been the pipe but I
wouldnt think there was that much variance in 3/16 kunfer.
My one was a bit dearer and included a tube cutter.
One I'd bought yonks ago from snap on was bob on but was nicked when my garage was broken into, but it was snap on money ie mucho expensive.

Forgot to mention Alex if you do buy the Machine Fart one treat the 3/16 double flare die with a lot of respect its dead easy to break and they dont
sell a replacement youd have to buy the complete kit again.

I have the mart one and its been fine. Its made by clarke I think.
It was the second one I used.
The first one I didnt have the insructions for. So I guessed how it was used and its not the way it looks.
If you get the method wrong it trashes the tube sometimes, and eventaully the tool. but the ends look 'right' in a fashion.
I also had the slipping tube problem. Ended up tightening the tool so much it broke!
You have to use the die FIRST then squash it with the taper. It looked to me that you used the taper to flare it, then used the die to turn it over.
The most important thing is to get square ends and to chamfer them with a file.
my cheapo tool is a dream to use. I went from a ''frig, this is my car building waterloo' situation, to being able to turn them out
well every time.
If you use it wrong, then its well crap. Follow the intructions and its great.
I wonder if you made the mistake I did......

I used mine to do the car in Kunifer and it's spot on, you have to make sure you don't leave too much pipe sticking up(oooer misus), just
to the lip on the first die, or it does deform them. Do a few practise flares and you'll soon get the hang of it. If you have any just put a
spot of brake grease on the die, it helps.

Thier were no instructions in mine either Steve but I'd remembered how to use it from the snap on one, ie tube sticks out to the lip on the die
as you say Pete. It works OK and doesnt leak but the flare just looks crap compared to the one made by the snap on.
Cant say that I'm overimpressed with any Machine Fart product its cheap chinese crap at an inflated price, my brother in law used to be the
manager at the local store and he was of the same opinion.

I got one of the frosts ones after it was best budget buy in Car Mechanics. I haven't tried using any others but the frosts one is dead easy.
