BRAND NEW EXTERNAL 320GB Hard Drive + Carry Case

I bought this HD on the basis it said it was Mac compatible but when I tried to power it up and mount it nothing happened. So after scouring the forums I found out contrary to what the manufacturer said it was not compatible with Macs. To confirm the HD was working I mounted it to a PC and it's all fine and dandy.

So does anyone fancy a new external PASSPORT SIZE HD? Looking for £65 with case and whatever the insured, tracked and signed for post is called all included.

Ive worked in IT for years... although ive never really had anything to do with macs..

i always thought that any old USb drive would work on a mac just like on pc, especially now that apple are using intel components, and you can install windows on your mac

It will work with the new Intel Macs and PCs but not the old G4s as the old school USB 1.0 only has bus power of 500 mA.

i was under the impression that 500ma is in the USB specification for the max power that a usb port can deliver, and that any deviced needing more than that would have to be plugged into an external power source also?

Not too sure. All I know is it doesn't work on my G4 but mounts fine on the PC.

You are plugging it into a high power usb arent you? The ones on the back of the main unit?

The ones on the keyboard are low power and only suiatble for running mem sticks etc.

It's a G4 laptop. I've decided to rip out the existing internal HD and replace it with a 250GB drive instead and a shot of 1GB memory.
