How easy, CA18DET?
How easy is it to get one of these engines running in a kit?
ECU wiring? Will i have to go after market?
I have plenty of room in my viento so size is not to much of an issue.
I was looking at fitting a saab turbo in place of my vaux redtop but i think my type 9 would give up rather quick.
I like the feel of turbo power as i want a reliable 250bhp with driveability.
Getting that sort of power from the red top would cost a lot and not be great round town.
I would use the gearbox out of the 200sx as this will take the power and get a new prop shaft made to suit.
All advice welcome (apart from you BEC boys )
Tommy

Have you considered the Vauxhall LET engine? if you'd like a Turbo, it would bolt straight upto what you've already got.

Hi Tommy
I have the same motor in my build ,I'm no rocket scientist and I got it running.
The best thing is the ECU has internal fault diagnostic system which is a real help to
sort out any problems.
I have a lot of info eg, factory service manual and ECU pin outs
Cheers

I have it too. Too tall by about 3 cm, but apart from that a bit big for a narrow frame like mine. I have the standard ECU, and for the short term
won't trim it - at least til it's on the road. Goes like crazy though.

They do tend to go through big ends a bit.
And make sure you replace the turbo oil feed with a flexi hose (doing the turbo water hoses will make your life easier too when removing / fitting the
turbo).
TBH if you've got a blank canvas and can stretch the budget a bit I'd look at its later slightly bigger brother the SR20DET.
I've had both (both in 200SX). Had the CA18DET up to about 270bhp and the SR20DET up to about 370bhp.

GrahamMK has one in his MK.
Jasper has the later 2.0 in his new car too.

You can get the SR20 quite a bit lower as well as getting more HP out of it.

Check out the web site for the PUMA cars in Australia. They use the SR20DET in them and they have heaps of balls.
One owners problem was no traction in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear.
Great fun !

to much bhp and torque, it will be un drivable in such a light car, my advice would be a duratec or a zetec.
i drove back from stoneleigh following a lorry at 50mph in the wet

No such thing as too much power and torque! I've got a CA18DET in my dutton running megasquirt.
Years ago I used a CA18ET and pulled the loom out of the Silvia, cut it down to size and it worked ok. Its not a separate engine loom though so you
need to have a head for wires! I'm still using the the spare wires now!
I think the big end problems come from too many revs combined with not enough oil.
