Way OT – Need to find a hole in the ground
Right here’s a tough one for you, hoping that someone will know this…
I want to find a list or get locations of all the small old abandoned open face rock quarry’s in my area (Aberdeen), in order to build a house in one
. I only know of a couple but can imagine there’s a lot more around than I know off as they tend to be hidden by tree’s etc.
Would the council have a list of these or some department? Or is there another way to get this info?
Thanks

Certinaly in the area I am from there are hundreds of old quarries and shafts... no one knows where they are..... so people keep "finding
them" and usualy end up dead at the bottom!
I guess there must be an industrial history database for the area... you need some history geeks to talk to!

Thought you were moving overseas Whipster?
Not sure about the answer to your question, but I would have thought that the local council would have had detailed terrain plans.....or maybe the
local library......worth a phone call?

now thats a handy site thanks
change of plans as far as moving abroad due to Missy not wanting to leave her family behind
Plan is to build a 60ft concrete shell dome into a quarry and bury most of it under soil. Yeah I know sounds far fetched but its quite common in the
states etc. I need a 30 deg slope, idealy cut out of rock...hence a quarry would be ideal

There is a place around here somewhere that is built into a quarry/old mine/cliff face quite a few years ago , the only entrance is via a small
greenhouse on the top , it was featured in a house design programme some years ago .
I've always fancied one myself but with a large garage on the top.

If it can be done it i will be done .

Yeah certainly lots of possibilities, this is similar to what I'm planning, not really a dark damp Hobbit hole as a lot of people would expect
