Lotus E....
I was wondering why all lotus cars names starts with the letter "E"? Except the ones with numbers of course.
My YouTube channel Cars, bikes - track days, motorsport, sim racing and more.

Been debated loads of times in Lotus circles... no-one's sure 'exactly' how it came to be, but the general consensus is that it
started with the Lotus XI.
There was confusion surrounding what to call it... was it an X-I, was it an Eleven, was it the one-one, etc, etc.
Chapman favoured the 'Eleven' approach, as he felt it rolled well off the back off the word Lotus, as did other words that started with
the letter 'E'.
Then it just became habit on the road cars. People will cite the 340R as being 'different', but it's a variant of the Elise... the
Elise 340R (340 being the BHP per ton they wanted - but failed to achieve).
The name Elise was given by the Italian chap who owned Lotus and Bugatti in the mid-90's. He named the car after his granddaughter!
My favourite has to be the 'Exige'... French for demand!

I think names are so much better than the modern trend of using numbers.
Just take my immediate family. The "boy" has a "6", his partner a "5", and they're selling the
"2".
I have a "3", and building a "7".
Now how boring is that?
A bloke in the pub the other night said he had a 323! We thought blimey, he runs three cars.
Cheers
