Blacktop oil pick up pipe
hey guys,
we're getting there now.....
Managed to get the car out today, running really well. Saying its faster than the old crossflow is a bit of an understatement.
we thought we may be able to run with the standard sump but now it seems it really is a bit to close to the tarmac
so, we have a cut down sump, but neither of us are particularly good with welding/brazing. anyone suggest somewhere we could buy/barter/steal a cut
down pick up pipe?
even better, anyone want to volunteer for tokens?
worth an ask

I'll put this in a slightly different way, we can chop the pickup pipe and get it welded but I need to know how much to chop out, so, how much
clearance should there be between the bottom of the pickup pipe and the bottom of the sump (I can work the rest out, even my maths is that good)

How about measuring the depths of a standard sump and the modified one you have? Should give you some idea how much to shorten it by.

I shortened a blacktop sump by about 1 inch and cut the same amount out of the pickup pipe.
Main problem is that it means removing nearly all of the parallel part of the pipe going to the pick up filter and it is a bit awkward to
rejoin, brazing is probably the best bet as the filter part is very thin tin.
