Wanted: Alternator for 2003 Fiesta 1.25
I need an alternator for a Fiesta 1.25 / 1.4 Zetec SE engine of about 2003 vintage.
The distinctive feature of this type of alternator is the 2 bolt top fixing lug that rigidly fixes the alternator to the engine.
The 1.6 Zetec SE engine I have put in the car I am building comes from a Focus. In addition to the main cable this type alternator has 3 control wires
for Ford's ' inteligent charging' system, which is not compatible with an aftermarket ECU.
The Fiesta alternator has a simple 2 wire control operation.
Please let me know if you have anything suitable.
Cheers,
Mal

I've got a 1996 Fiesta 1.25 alternator and a 2001 Focus 1.6 version. The mountings are different (1.25 is in line with the body, 1.6 is
perpendicular to the body) and they both use the 2 pin connectors. Apart from the main output on a stud, one of the 2 connections goes to the warning
light on the dashboard and the other one takes a PWM signal at about 70Hz to drive the field coil. I did work out a simple PIC circuit to control the
PWM signal but ended up using the standard Ford ECU to drive everything...
Sorry - not a fat lot of help, but let me know if you need any more info...
Ed.

I have an ST170 Alternator that has only done 50 miles....Has been in the garage for a while now.. If you have a picture of the one you are looking
for I can check to see if it is the same....

In rely to Madinventions & Dave
Madinventions:
It is the alternator from about 2001 with the top fixing bolts perpendicular to the engine that I need. I thought, hoped, that the 2 that the wire
alternator only needed 12 volts and a warning light connection, but you are saying that PWM signal is required. My difficulty is that I am using an
Omex ECU rather than the Ford one.
Obviously other people using the Zetec 1600 SE engine have overcome this problem.
I wonder if they have had to use anything like a PIC or found a simpler method?
Dave,
Thank you for your offer. Does your alternation look like this one? If so the mountings are unfortunately, different.
