Type 9 electronic speedo sender
I have a very good Type 9 gearbox lying on the floor in my garage that I'd like to fit to my car, maybe after fitting a long 1st gear set. The
good news is that it is one of the last they made so has done fewer miles than most. The bad news is that it is the type that uses an electronic
sender for the speedo - and I don't have one of those. It would be very useful if I had one as I could use it to drive my speedo, instead of
the home-made electronic sender that I have at the moment (and which needs repairing, for about the 3rd time).
So - does anyone have one of these senders they'd like to sell?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

I think there quite bulky and you may find there is not enough room in the tunnel if you have a 4 speed in there at present, the type 9 is a bit
bulkier.
I would fit a pick up to the back axle maybe on the diff casing picking up the prop bolts or in the rear brake back plate to pickup the half shaft.
Or depending on how many impulses per rev you need you could glue a magnet to a front rim and pick up of that with a sensor on the wing stay.

I should say that I already have a Type 9 fitted, and it has my home-made sender in place of the speedo cable. It's just that I want to replace
the existing box with one that's "enhanced".
The newer box doesn't have the cable outlet - if you look at the old-style Type 9 box, there is a blanking plug on the opposite side to the
speedo cable connection. On the new box the blanking plug is replaced by the electronic sender. The sender has a shaft with a gear on the end that
is driven directly by the gearbox output shaft's worm gear.

That looks like the beastie, although it's a rubbish picture... it is expensive, but that page does have a lot of useful info (source car, part
number, etc.)
Cheers!

For anyone who's reading this and is interested, I have a drawing for a type 9 speedo sensor adaptor that anyone can have if they u2u me their
email, so you can have one made up.
Also I have 2 of the ford sensors (like burton sell) 1 will be fitted and tested then the other will be surplus. The only problem being the 3 wires
are bared right where they exit the sensor, nothing a bit of heat shrink won't sort, and it'll be cheap, i.e. free.
I am looking for the right size circlip to fit said sensor adaptor though, so if anyone has one and fancies a trade..........
