MT75 'box from a 4 pot
As subject really! I'm after an MT75 taken from a 4 cylinder Sierra, I'm guessing a 2.0 Pinto, if such a thing exists.
Anyone got anything? Closer and cheaper the better!

2.5 V6 Duratec, although I'm yet to find out for sure if the bolt pattern is the same. They normally come coupled to the MTX75 box which is
also used on the 2.0 Zetec in a Focus so I'm assuming (hopefully correctly) that as the Zetec bolts straight up to the MT75 so will the
Duratec.
If anyone knows any different please say!

Are you putting a Duratec V6 in the Viento?? It is a very nice sounding engine, my dad had 2 V6 mondeos.

No idea if the Bolt pattern on the MTX and MT are teh same I am affraid..
How you going to mount the Duratec, As I understand they have no points to attatch engine mounts on teh sides of the block.

It's not going in the Viento I'm afraid! Just collecting bits for another conversion but it is a long way off yet

Smart A..s Paul
But is the Duratec V6 MTX75 the same as the 4pot MTX75?
Or are ford just as helpful as they are for us poor Cologne V6 boys..

This is what I'm trying to find out...
What I do know is the 2.0 Zetec Focus also uses the MTX75 box and that engine will bolt to an MT75. No one has been able to tell me for sure if
it's the same so I think I might have to buy one and find out.

Would that be because the Mondeo V6's were 6 speed?

All V6 mondeos up untill the ST220 where 5 speed MTX75
Just to put a spanner in the works, early cossie engine based on pinto used T5 box, later 4x4 (still pinto pattern) used MT75, plus cossie has been
fitted to MTX box for transverse aplication!

Just going to have to get one and try it arn't I! I have an old type 9 bellhousing in the garage so I'll assume if that bolts up then the
MT75 will.
Been offered a 100,000 mile engine for £100. It'll need the pistons changed anyway so I'm not too bothered about rebuilding it. Reckon
it's worth a shot?

i'm sure someone like burtons or mountune can supply the necessary bits. i know mountune build race engines out of the duratec v6, so they must
get replacements bits from somewhere..
Ned.

mountune have the parts made special at very high cost.

you must be able to match the bore/deck piston height to another engine, then get rods made up to suit. it's probably the bearings and timing
gear that are more expensive to get made in small quantities..
Ned.

The Duratec is used as a turbo in the Nobel so the low comp pistons must be available for it. It's just finding a set...
But, as suggested, I'm planning on trying to match them to another engine and then figure out how to attach them to the rods. Another long term
project!

Might be out of date now, but I'll add my 2p. I'd be very surprised if the duratec and 4-pot bolt patterns are the same. You'll
probably find that ford have a bolt pattern for all 4-pots (hence all the 4-pot MT75 and MTX75 interchangability) and a different pattern for v6s, as
is the case with the cologne. Whether or not cologne matches duratec, who knows? If you get a duratec, I have a cologne bellhousing you can easily
try on.
Thinking about it, the 4-pots all have flanges on the side of the block where you bolt from the engine side into threaded holes in the box. Obviously
a v6 can't have this arrangement and all bolts go from gearbox side to engine. This points to the likelyhood of your particular mating attempt
being unsuccessful =(.

Did this ever get settled
Did you find out whether this was possible? I am asking because my long term plan, once the 1600 pinto has got me through the SVA test, is to fit my
Eagle with something with a little bit of grunt - the car looks like something that should have a lot of cylinders under the bonnet, but I want to
stay nice and light so a 2.5 duratec would be perfect.
Cheers,
Ed
