Space for inlet on J15 / Riot / Mojo ? - A favour.
Hi, Could someone do a big favour and measure the distance between the engine inlet ports on a zetec se engine (i.e. from the head), to the body work
on the rear bulk head.
I would like to build my inlet manifold which I have the engine out of the car (plus I dn't have the kti yet, so I have lots of room in my
garage.
thanks.
Paul.

J15 Sigma 1.7
I did a trial fit of my engine earlier in the year, it has a racing puma plenium. Now that plenim is a big sucker and to my amazement it all fits. The
clearances were not large but sufficient. Lets put it this way I will not be using softer engine mounts. I can always post you a picture of the Racing
puma plenium. Unfortunately I don't have one of it in the car!

Thats very interesting......The FRP manifold looks huge in the puma. But if that fits I suspect my TB's will be ok.
I had a quick look on ebay for the FRP manifold...There is one on at the mo for £700!.

Puts my £50 throttle bodies to shame :-)
Looks like I'll have to wait 72 years for the next one to come up on ebay :-)

I am in a similar position with my Cyclone build, it wasn't designed for a Puma but that is what I wanted. My FRP manifold has minimal clearance
( the standard one is much better ) but I have cunning plan! I have cut and shut a couple of upper standard manifold parts to create a downdraught
manifold for TBs. These will stand through the engine cover behind the drivers head but provide the necessary 400mm inlet length. Anything shorter is
bad news. If anyone interested I will try and post a picture - need to work out how!

Clearance Clarance
I visited JP recently and measured the Zetec SE in the J16 Riot and from the front face of the head to the chassis member at the top of the back of
the seats it was 23cm if I recall correctly.
Coincidentally this is about the same on Richards Duratec J15 I think. If I were you I would seek confirmation from Jeremy.
I think barring building your own, the only commercial ITBs that might fit are the direct to head AT Power ones with the shortest trumpets.
I was concerned about the same issue as the Jenvey site notes the optimal induction length and this is a bit short. However, there is also a thread
about a guy putting a duratec in an elise and he used the short AT power itbs and shoes a rolling road print out that is quite smooth and at
reasonable revs so I guess its acceptable if not optimal.

Thanks all for the info.....
I'm going to make my inlet manifold as small as possible, I can then see what the max size trumpets are (see my blog for an update on this).
