Lumpy Pinto
Hi All,
I have a problem that is stopping me enjoying the first nice days of the year!
Sods law it worked fine all winter!
2.0 Pinto
32/36 Carb? - This is my best guess but it looks different to google images as it has round intakes.
Luminition electronic ignition.
Seems to run fine even up to high revs for about 10 mins driving
After that it really labours under load.
Idles fine and also seems OK at full throttle but anywhere inbetween it is lumpy feels like its trying to throw the gearbox into a hedge.
I dont have a timing lamp so timing is set at best guess.
Any advice would be appreciated.

have you checked your plugs or thermostat stuck open?
Think about it, think about it again and then do it.

Do you have a air intake in your fuel tank ?or a blocked fuel filter ?

first thing I would do is strip carb and clean.
Is it an auto choke? If so it sounds like you might have a blocked jet which is masked by the auto choke but when it warms up the choke cuts out and
reveals the issue.

Is it a 12 volt coil?
If not and you have a ballast resistor, it could have failed and the low voltage coil overheating.

If you need to borrow a timing light you could pop over in the car and time it up on our drive. 5 mins junc 30 m1. Cheerd Sean.

ill offer the same service. timing light you can use here in Barnsley . 2 mins from j37 5 mins from j36
rules one thing out.

Do you have a side view of the mechanism. .??
Understeer , when the front hits a wall
Oversteer, when the back hits a wall
Horsepower ,how fast you hit the wall
Torque ,how far you take the wall with you

Its not a 32/36 or a 38/38. It looks familar, may be the twin choke unit they used for the 1.6 Mk3 Escorts but these had a slightly different
manifold fitting.

it doesn't look like a dgv... does where the throttle rod connect to the carb have cog like teeth ??
if so its a dgas.
is the auto choke coming off.??
how long has the carb been fitted ??

Strange!
It would appear that the first pic of the carb has somehow changed to a pic of me and my youngest! Not sure how that happened
But as a proud Dad I think I will just leave it up :-)

It sounds like a fuel delivery issue, tank not properly vented, crap in tank, choked filter, fuel pump ..... Before doing anything else start with
the fuel tank venting then remove cap and disconnect at the pump inlet and blow the line back to the tank with a foot pump.

Is it a 28/32 TLDM? Definitely not a DGAS - it'll be stamped on the lower flange somewhere normally.

Try running without the air filter, it may be stoppng the choke from coming off. you can then see if it does work when it warms up.
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.
